What is the ruling on the relationship between a young man and a young woman when some of their families claim that there is a prohibitive suckling relationship between them, despite the lack of the legal conditions for prohibitive suckling, and what should be done in light of the families' lack of conviction regarding this?
The suckling that establishes a prohibitive kinship is five known sucklings. If the sucklings are fewer than five, they do not establish prohibitory kinship, and it is permissible to marry the girl. However, it is preferable to avoid her to err on the side of caution, given the disagreement of those who say that a single suckling establishes prohibition, and in accordance with the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in the hadith of Uqbah ibn Al-Harith: "How can it be, when it has been said?" Love relationships between young men and women are not sanctioned by Islamic law. If one's heart becomes attached to a woman, the lawful course of action is to marry her. If that is not possible, then one should turn away from her.
