What should a committed girl do when she has fallen in love with a committed young man and agreed to marry him, but his family has refused their marriage, especially since she prayed to God for him to be her husband and desires no one else?
The closest path for a beloved to reach his beloved is marriage. If the young man can convince his parents to marry the girl, that is good. But if his parents insist on refusing, he must obey them, unless he fears harm. If he is not destined to marry her, then the girl must sever all ties with him and entrust her affairs to Allah. Allah Almighty says: "But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not" (Quran 2:216). The young man's statement to the girl, "You are my wife, by the will of Allah," has no legal consequence, as marriage has conditions without which it is not valid. And her prayer at the Kaaba will not be in vain.
