What is Bayt al-Mal al-Muslimeen?

All praise is due to Allah. Linguistically, "Bayt al-Mal" (House of Wealth) is a place designated for preserving money, whether private or public. In Islamic terminology, the term "Bayt Mal al-Muslimeen" (House of Wealth of the Muslims) or "Bayt Mal Allah" (House of Wealth of Allah) was used to denote the place where the public funds of the Islamic state were preserved. The term then evolved to refer to the entity that owns the public wealth of the Muslims, including money, goods, and lands. Public wealth is every asset found in Muslim lands whose owner is not specifically identified. As for the private funds of the Caliph, they were called "Bayt Mal al-Khassah" (House of Private Wealth).
