What should an Iraqi girl living in America do, after a virtuous and religious Algerian young man proposed to her and she accepted, while her family refuses this marriage on the grounds of not knowing his family, and due to social, financial, and educational differences between the two families, despite her being certain of his good character and his family's good conduct?

If a man of religion and good character proposes, he must be accepted. The guardian's rejection of him without a legitimate Sharia reason, such as material or social differences, is not considered a valid reason.

It is advisable to pray, perform Istikhara (prayer for guidance), and then consult with people of sound judgment to persuade the parents.

If approval is not obtained, it is permissible to marry without the parents' consent, but under the guardianship of another guardian. If no such guardian exists or he refuses, the matter should be referred to Islamic centers so that they may arrange her marriage. After that, she should strive to earn her parents' رضا (رضا).
