Are the wife's parents entitled to object to her temporary stay with her husband's family, despite the husband's promise to provide independent housing later?
Housing is a right for the wife, by the consensus of jurists. The majority of them hold that she has the right to separate housing from her husband's relatives, and she may refuse to live with them. Independent housing is achieved with a room that has a door and a lock, along with a private toilet and kitchen, except in cases of poverty. If the wife accepts living with her husband's family, there is no harm, and her waiver of this right does not invalidate it; she may revert to it whenever she wishes. Living with the husband's family must be free from prohibitions, such as the wife being alone with non- male relatives of the husband. Consideration should be given to the endurance of both the wife and the husband's family in sharing housing to avoid marital problems.
