Are the disconnected letters at the beginning of the surahs in the Qur’an related to the Abjad numerals (Hisab al-Jumal)?

Some exegetes have interpreted the isolated letters (al-ḥurūf al-muqaṭṭaʿah) using the abjad numerical system (ḥisāb al-jummal). However, a group of scholars has rejected this, mentioning that the origin of this assertion stems from the Jews. It has been narrated that the Jews who were in Medina during the time of the Prophet, peace be upon him, such as Huyayy ibn Akhtab, sought to interpret the longevity of this nation (ummah) from the initial letters of the surahs. It has been reported that they attempted to calculate the duration of the Islamic nation's existence through the numerical value of the isolated letters, claiming that some of them indicated a period of seventy years, and others a longer duration. Ibn Kathir clarified that this narration is weak, and its chain of transmission revolves around Muhammad ibn as-Sā'ib al-Kalbī, whose独 narrations are not taken as evidence.
