What is the "Trumpet" mentioned in His, the Almighty's, saying: "And the Trumpet will be blown, and all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth will swoon away, except him whom Allah wills"? And how will the blowing into it be?

The Trumpet (Al-Sur) is a horn that will be blown. The one who will blow it is Israfil (peace be upon him), and he has been ready to blow it ever since Allah created him. Most scholars are of the opinion that the blowing of the Trumpet will occur twice: the first is the blast of stupefaction (nafkhat as-sa'q), by which all creatures will die; and the second is the blast of resurrection (nafkhat al-ba'th), where people will emerge from their graves. The proof for this is Allah's saying: "And the Trumpet will be blown, and all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth will swoon away, except him whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown a second time, and behold, they will be standing, looking on." (Quran 39:68). Between the two blasts, there will be a period of forty (years, days, or months, Allah knows best), and people will be recreated from the coccyx (ajb adh-dhanab). Some scholars are of the opinion that there will be three blasts, by adding a blast of terror (nafkhat al-faza') before the blast of stupefaction, but the more preponderant opinion is that terror and stupefaction will occur together in the first blast.
