How does Iblis place his throne upon the water?

Imam Muslim and Ahmad narrated from Jabir that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, Iblis places his throne upon the water," or "upon the sea," then he dispatches his battalions to mislead people. The one who is most honored in his sight is the one who causes the greatest trial for people. Ibn Kathir and Al-Mubarakfuri are of the view that Iblis's throne is real and exists upon the sea, and they cite the story of Ibn Sayyad with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, as evidence for this. It was also said that what is meant is Iblis's dominance in misleading creation.
