ما هي الصيغة المناسبة لمناداة المدير الكافر، وهل يجوز القيام له عند حضوره؟
The term (Sayyid) is used to refer to the Lord, the owner, the revered one, the leader of a people, and the husband. It is not permissible to apply it to a disbeliever with the intention of owner or lord. However, it is permissible to apply it to him in the sense of the leader or head of his people, or his leadership over his institution, administration, or family. This is indicated by the Hadith: "Every soul among the Children of Adam is a master (Sayyid); a man is the master of his family, and a woman is the mistress of her house."
A disbeliever or a hypocrite should not be addressed as (Sayyid) by way of glorification, based on the Hadith: "Do not say 'Sayyid' to a hypocrite, for if he is a master, then you have angered your Lord, the Almighty," because that is considered glorifying someone who does not deserve glorification. Imam Al-Manawi mentioned that the use of Sayyid for other than Allah is common in the Qur'an and Sunnah, and what is forbidden is its use for the purpose of aggrandizement, not for identification.
