What is the ruling regarding someone ignorant of Tawhid?

Ignorance is excused differently based on the reach of the message and the clarity of the issue. One who has received the call to Islam, to whom the truth has been made clear, and against whom the evidence has been established—such as someone living in Muslim lands who hears sermons and admonitions—is not excused by their ignorance. However, a Muslim living in a non-Muslim country or in a remote area who does not interact with scholars might be excused for their ignorance of certain matters. This is supported by Allah's saying: "And this Quran was revealed to me that I may warn you thereby and whoever it reaches," and "And never would We punish until We had sent a messenger," and the Hadith: "By Him in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, no one from this nation, neither a Jew nor a Christian, hears about me and then dies without believing in that with which I was sent, but he will be among the inhabitants of the Fire."
