The majority of scholars, both ancient and contemporary, hold the view that one who abandons prayer due to laziness or negligence does not become a disbeliever, but rather commits a grave sin. They adduce as evidence that the hadiths concerning disbelief apply to those who abandon prayer out of denial or by deeming its abandonment permissible. Based on this opinion, the slaughtered animals of one who abandons prayer due to laziness are permissible to consume, by analogy with the permissibility of consuming the slaughtered animals of the People of the Book despite their disbelief. However, out of piety and caution, one may refrain from eating the slaughtered animals of one who abandons prayer if the slaughtered animals of those who pray are available.
