Is it permissible to transmit lectures and seminars via video, without recording them, and is it permissible to record them for re-broadcasting and benefiting from them?

It is permissible to film and record scholarly lectures and seminars on videotape if they do not contain anything that violates the rulings of Islam, in order to spread benefit and disseminate knowledge. The device itself has no ruling; it can be used for good or for evil.
