Must a young man tell his fiancée about his low sperm count, even though his condition has improved and doctors are optimistic about a full recovery?

Sperm deficiency and poor sperm motility are considered defects that must be disclosed to the fiancée due to the consequent inability to procreate, which is one of the most important purposes of marriage. Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "Tell her you are infertile and give her a choice." Imam Ahmad and Ishaq hold the view that if a man knows he is infertile, he must disclose it so as not to deceive her if she desires children. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn al-Qayyim chose to consider infertility a defect that necessitates annulment. Therefore, the young man must inform his fiancée; if she accepts, then that is her choice, but if he hopes his condition will improve, he should postpone the engagement.
