Is it permissible to have multiple intentions for a single action, and is there a specific number for them?

If the intention behind multiple intentions in a single act is to seek Allah's countenance and people's praise simultaneously, then the act is invalid. However, if the intention is to obtain multiple permissible rewards from a single act (such as giving charity with the intention of gaining shade on the Day of Judgment, maintaining kinship ties, and feeding the poor), then this is permissible and rewarded. There is no limited number for such intentions as long as they are legitimate. A good intention transforms a permissible act into an act of worship for which a Muslim is rewarded. Mu'adh ibn Jabal said: "I sleep and I stand [in prayer], and I hope for my sleep what I hope for my standing." A Muslim should have a good intention in everything, even in their daily affairs, so as to intend thereby drawing closer to Allah.
