Does my repentance forgive what has passed, and can I forget the sins I have committed?

Repentance erases sins and makes the repentant person as if they had not sinned, according to the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "The one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin." And the repentant one will not be punished for the sin from which they repented, neither in this world nor in the Hereafter. Therefore, a servant should not despair but continue to repent and distance themselves from disobedience.
