Responding to God and the Messenger?
Responding to Allah and His Messenger means answering the call by obeying commands, refraining from prohibitions, and following the guidance that Allah has revealed. Al-Tabari interpreted the response in the verse, "O you who have believed, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life," as obedience when the Messenger calls to that which gives life from the truth, such as fighting the enemy and judging by the Qur'an. In this, there is life for the one who responds in this world and the Hereafter. The Qur'an has praised the believers who responded to Allah and His Messenger in times of hardship, as in His saying, "Those who responded to Allah and the Messenger after injury had struck them – for those among them who did good and feared Allah is a great reward."
