What is the meaning of the saying of Omar ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him: "The most generous of people is he who gives to one from whom he expects no reward"?

Perhaps what is meant by the narration—if it is authentic—is what was reported from Umar ibn al-Khattab, who said: "Indeed, the most generous of people is he who is generous to one from whom he does not expect recompense..." Its meaning is that the truly generous person is one who gives for the sake of Allah without expecting anything in return from the recipient.
