Is whistling forbidden, and is it among the actions of the people of Lut?

Whistling is reprehensible (makrooh) and is a form of idleness that a Muslim should not engage in. It was an act of the polytheists around the Sacred House, as they used to perform "muka' and tasdiyah" [whistling and clapping], and it is also reported to be among the actions of the people of Lot.
