It is permissible to name with a foreign (non-Arabic) name if its meaning is known and it does not contain any Sharia prohibition. If the name is specific to disbelievers, then it is not permissible to use it due to the resemblance involved. Sheikh Bakr Abu Zayd mentioned that naming with foreign, newly coined names specific to disbelievers is forbidden and is among the gravest sins, requiring repentance and change.
