Man's inclination towards woman and vice-versa is a natural disposition Allah has created in humanity, and a man is not to be blamed for his inclination towards the female sex; rather, it is part of his completeness. If a man's heart becomes attached to a non-mahram woman, the reason is often the unrestrained gaze and not lowering it from forbidden things. The principles of love are voluntary, and a person is responsible for the causes that lead to it.

The correct solution for this inclination is to propose to the woman if it is permissible religiously and practically. If he is unable to marry, he must turn to Allah and be patient, knowing that this is a trial. If he refrains from forbidden acts, conceals his pain, and patiently obeys Allah, he will be rewarded for his piety. The noble verse (And there is no blame upon you for what you hint about concerning a proposal to women or what you conceal within yourselves) — even though it was revealed concerning a woman in her 'iddah (waiting period) — can be used to infer that there is no harm for one who loves a woman to harbor within himself the intention of proposing to her when the impediment is removed, provided there is no mutual promising or engaging in forbidden acts. As for openly declaring love to someone one cannot marry, it is not a "good word" but rather a reprehensible one.
