If a person breaks an oath by swearing not to use their phone at certain times, a single expiation (kaffarah) is required if it was one oath. However, if there were two independent oaths, repeated with the word of swearing, then according to the majority of scholars, two expiations are required. The Hanbalis, however, hold that only one expiation is due, even if the oaths were made regarding different matters. Once the oath is broken, it is dissolved.
