The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to break his fast with fresh dates (rutab). If he did not find them, then with dried dates (tamarat). And if not, he would drink sips of water. He also used to consume broth, and he commanded that the water of the broth be increased and given to neighbors. There is no mention in the Sunnah that indicates broth and fresh dates are spoiled or unfit for consumption.
