Is it permissible for a betrothed woman to break off her engagement to her paternal cousin due to a lack of compatibility and her desire to marry a committed young man, even if her family and social customs object?

The solution lies in patience and accepting marriage to her cousin. May Allah place affection and mercy between the spouses, as Allah Almighty says: "And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought." (Ar-Rum: 21), and His saying: "But perhaps you hate a thing and Allah makes therein much good." (An-Nisa: 19).

It is stipulated that the suitor must be satisfactory in his religion and character. If he is not, then he should not be accepted, and the father's obedience is not obligatory in this case. He is not permitted to compel his daughter to marry someone she dislikes, based on the hadith of the virgin girl whose father married her against her will, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her the choice. This indicates that a father does not have the right to force his daughter to marry someone she does not desire, and the daughter's refusal is not considered disobedience. The most suitable and beneficial option must be considered.
