Is it permissible for a father to withhold maintenance from his children if they are living far from him with their mother, and he is in a dispute with her and they are supporting her?

The maintenance of young children who have no wealth is obligatory upon the father by consensus. As for a mature individual capable of earning, their maintenance is not obligatory unless they are poor and possess no wealth. A condition for the obligation of maintenance is that the provider must be capable of providing it. The maintenance of females is obligatory upon the father until they marry, provided they have no wealth. Disobedience of children does not negate the maintenance that is obligatory upon the father. The father is advised to resolve his issues with his wife and resort to the law of Allah.
