What should a young man do who saved a piece of gold for marriage, and a year has passed over it, while he possesses no money or salary to pay its Zakat?

If someone owns a piece of gold that has reached the minimum threshold (nisab) and a full year (hawl) has passed on it, and they do not have money to pay its zakat, then they are obligated to sell it and pay its zakat.
