Is there Zakat due on gold that a sister kept and did not wear for adornment, and then sold?

Zakat is obligatory on gold prepared for sale or savings if it reaches the nisab (85 grams or more) and a full year has passed over it, whether it is intended for trade or for expenses when needed. One-quarter of one-tenth must be given for each year that has passed over it.
