What is the Shar’i ruling regarding a husband who refuses to allow his wife to complete her university education, does not take responsibility for his children, lies, and does not develop himself?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The husband is not obligated to complete his studies, and the wife has no right to compel him to do so. However, there is no harm in advising and encouraging him. As for lying, it is forbidden, and the husband should be advised about it gently and wisely, and encouraged to associate with righteous people. Regarding the wife's studies, if they require her to leave the house or conflict with the husband's rights, it is not permissible except with his consent. The wife should know that affection between spouses requires patience and overlooking faults.
