Mourning for someone other than the husband is permissible for a maximum of three days, based on the Prophet's (PBUH) saying: "It is not lawful for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for more than three days, except for her husband." It is not obligatory, nor does it necessitate abandoning adornment, perfume, or going out, as is the case with mourning for a husband. The husband's permission is required for abandoning adornment and the like, as it affects his right to enjoyment. Intercourse is not prohibited during this period.
