What is the Islamic legal ruling on the dispute that has arisen between my family and my fiancé's family concerning the dowry, given that they are demanding 1000 grams of gold which has not been received, and half of the house in my name, and they wish for me to live with them, while my fiancé does not consider it my right to set conditions?

Parents should ease the burden on the suitor regarding the dowry and not exaggerate their demands. If the suitor is suitable and the fiancée agrees to him, she should be content with what he can afford in terms of dowry and housing. Her family does not have the right to prevent her from marrying him, even if the dowry is less than the customary dowry for someone of her status. It is advisable to explain this to the family, or to seek mediation from wise individuals to convince them to facilitate the marriage. It must be noted that the suitor is a stranger to the fiancée until the legal marriage contract is concluded.
