Is it better for the congregant to practice tawarruk in prayer if it inconveniences those next to him, or to omit it?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Tawarrruk in prayer means to keep the right foot upright, extend the left foot out from the right side, and rest your hip on the ground. If performing tawarrruk causes harm to someone next to you in a tight row, then repelling harm takes precedence over performing a sunnah, because harming a believer is not a trivial matter, and Allah has threatened those who cause harm with punishment. Allah Almighty says: (And those who harm believing men and believing women for [something] other than what they have earned have certainly borne slander and manifest sin). Therefore, abandoning a sunnah to repel harm is better than performing it while causing harm. And whoever abandons tawarrruk for this reason will be rewarded as if they had performed it, if Allah knows their intention.
