Repentance is obligatory for gambling, for conditioning a wife's divorce on a reprehensible act, and for openly committing it. Repentance is achieved by desisting, regretting, and resolving never to return to the sin, as well as by speaking well of the woman and disbelieving oneself.

Regarding breaking the conditional divorce, there are two opinions: 1. The divorce does not take effect until the last possible moment has passed (i.e., upon the death of the one who swore the oath or the woman concerned by the oath). 2. According to the Malikis, breaking the oath occurs simply by resolving not to do the act sworn upon.
