Is it true that for whoever repents of usury after having taken usurious gains, "what has passed is his"?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The penitent who consumed usury:

- If he was ignorant of the prohibition of usury, then what has passed is his, and he is not obligated to dispose of the usurious wealth in his possession. However, it is not permissible for him to take what he has not yet seized from it.

- If he was aware of the prohibition, then he is obligated to dispose of the usurious wealth in his possession. If he is poor, he may take from it what suffices his need, and dispose of the remainder in charitable causes.
