Is working in the bank transfers department of a usurious bank, which specializes in analyzing transfer data to avoid errors and risks, Islamically permissible? Is the money earned from it halal? Should one leave it immediately or upon finding another job?

It is absolutely impermissible to work in usurious banks, even if the work does not directly involve the employee in usurious contracts. This is because it entails condoning evil and assisting in it, as every service in a usurious bank is considered complementary to the work of others. The Permanent Committee has issued a fatwa stating the impermissibility of a Muslim working in a usurious bank, because it provides employees with what they need and assists them in their usurious dealings, citing the words of Allah Almighty: "And do not cooperate in sin and aggression." There are no exempted departments in a usurious bank.

Nevertheless, if a person cannot find another permissible job from which to spend on himself and his family, he may remain in the usurious work while searching for a permissible job, and he must leave the forbidden work as soon as an alternative becomes available, because necessity is judged by its extent.
