What is the ruling on one who frequently swears by divorce, knowing of his illness and being 58 years of age?

Swearing by other than Allah’s names or attributes is forbidden in Sharia. Swearing by divorce is forbidden due to the negative consequences that may result from it, which could lead to the dissolution of the marital bond. The man who swears by divorce must be advised to stop making such oaths and habituate his tongue to the remembrance of Allah Almighty and to swearing by His names and attributes. He should also not swear excessively, even if it is by Allah. The illness that excuses a person is one that causes loss of consciousness and awareness.
