What is the ruling on swearing by divorce for an unmarried person?

The default is to swear by Allah Almighty, and it is not appropriate to swear by divorce, whether the one swearing is married or not. Some scholars have gone so far as to prohibit swearing by divorce, while others consider it reprehensible. As for swearing by divorce before marriage, it is null and void and does not result in a divorce after marriage.
