Initiating prayer at the beginning of its prescribed time is among the best deeds, as indicated by the hadith (definition): "Prayer at its appointed time." "At its appointed time" refers to the moment the time for prayer begins. Performing the prayer at any point within its allotted time is permissible, and there is no sin upon one who delays it, as long as it is not delayed beyond its chosen time. The preference for initiating prayer at the beginning of its time applies specifically to one who will pray individually. However, for one who will find a congregation before the time expires, it is better for him to delay the prayer to perform it in congregation.
