What should one do if he forgets to perform some of the obligatory acts of ghusl and wudu’—such as washing the face—after commencing them, and this leads him to repeat these actions more than once?

The entire body must be covered with water, and it must reach the roots of the hair when performing ghusl (ritual bath) after major impurity. Wiping the head is not sufficient. If forgetfulness and doubts become excessive, you should disregard them and pay no attention to them, for Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. Scholars have stated that whoever experiences frequent doubts regarding purification should disregard them. If you doubt having washed a limb after moving on to another limb during ablution (wudu'), assume that you have washed it.
