Is it permissible to marry the daughter of the elder maternal uncle, knowing that the grandmother (mother's mother) breastfed the questioner once – it is probable that it was not a full feeding – on his younger maternal uncle, and no one witnessed his breastfeeding from the grandmother except the questioner's mother, and the elder maternal uncle (the fiancée's father) doubts that the breastfeeding occurred?

The jurists have differed regarding the number of sucklings that establish prohibition [of marriage]. The preponderant opinion for us is that prohibition is not established except by five sucklings, and this is affirmed by the statement of a single woman. Based on this, the daughter of the maternal uncle does not become unlawful [to marry] by a single suckling. However, it is more cautious not to marry her, in order to avoid the disagreement.
