What is the ruling on repeatedly doing something I swore by the Qur'an to abandon, and what is required of me concerning this oath?
If someone swears by Allah or by one of His attributes and then breaks their oath, they are required to offer an expiation (kaffarat yamin): feeding ten poor people, or clothing them, or emancipating a slave. If they cannot afford any of these, then they must fast for three days. Swearing on the Qur’an is a way of emphasizing and reinforcing the oath, and the expiation becomes obligatory whether anyone knows about it or not.
