What is the significance of the behavior of this person who disappeared after I confessed my admiration to him, and should I be considered mistaken and held accountable, Islamically, for this confession, knowing that I confessed to him to avoid lying and betrayal, and in affirmation of the Prophet’s — may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him — saying: "It is a great betrayal that you tell your brother a statement which he believes you in, while you are lying to him thereby"?

The questioner erred by being frank with the man about what was in her heart. Such talk is blameworthy religiously, rationally, and customarily, except within the bounds of a woman offering herself for marriage to someone she deems suitable. The indication of this man's disappearance and absence after the frankness is clear, as he who knows the limits of his religion avoids situations of temptation. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I have not left behind me any temptation more harmful to men than women." Therefore, it is appropriate for her to emulate his committed behavior and distance herself from him.
