What is the ruling on postponing the hijab for fear of potential harassment in study or at work?

The hijab is an obligation upon Muslim women. Allah has commanded it in many verses of the Holy Quran, and He, glory be to Him, has forbidden ostentatious display (tabarruj). There are also prophetic hadiths warning against women who are dressed but naked. A Muslim woman should hasten to obey Allah and His Messenger, and she should not fear the harassment of people, for Allah defends those who believe. "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out and provide for him from where he does not expect." If the inhabitants of the earth were to unite in disobeying Allah, He would destroy them. Allah repels calamities from the disobedient through the blessing of the obedient and the piety of the righteous.
