What is the ruling on singing and listening to it, is the money earned from it unlawful, and what is Islam's view on the singer?

Singing accompanied by musical instruments is forbidden for both men and women. Singing with the daff (tambourine) is permissible for men among themselves, and for women among themselves, provided that the words are free from obscenity and impermissible content. Money earned from forbidden singing is unlawful in its origin, because when Allah forbids something, He also forbids its price. A truly devout person cannot be a singer.
