Is improving one's image in front of a female friend to gain her appreciation, respect, and admiration considered hypocrisy (riya’)?

"Riya' (showing off) is the seeking of status in people's hearts by displaying acts of worship, or desiring worldly benefit through actions intended for the hereafter, or intending other than Allah with one's worship. Improving your image or seeking status and appreciation from your friend through what you mentioned is not considered riya'."
