Is the remembrance (dhikr) of "I seek forgiveness from Allah the number of His creation, and I praise Allah the number of raindrops and the number of grains of sand; I seek forgiveness from Allah, a forgiveness befitting the glory of His countenance and the greatness of His sovereignty, and I praise Allah the number of breaths taken by humans and the number of leaves on trees" considered an innovation (bid'ah)?

There is no objection to seeking forgiveness with the mentioned formula if its desirability is not believed. It is better to restrict oneself to the formulas transmitted [from the Prophet], such as the master of seeking forgiveness (Sayyid al-Istighfar). However, adhering to this formula morning and evening as one of the morning and evening remembrances (adhkar) is not found in the Sunnah and should be avoided, for the best guidance is the guidance of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
