Scholars have differed regarding the entry of disbelievers into mosques (excluding al-Masjid al-Haram), with several opinions: absolute prohibition, absolute permissibility, prohibition except for a work-related necessity, or permissibility with the permission of Muslims. The preponderant opinion is the permissibility of their entry if a legitimate religious benefit or need is realized, such as inviting them to Islam, while observing that their entry should not be for recreation or tourism, and that they should be in a state of purity commensurate with respecting and honoring the mosque.
