Is the Istikhara supplication to be recited immediately after the Ibrahimiyya prayer, or after praising God and praying for the Prophet once more?

The supplication (du'a') in Istikhara (prayer for guidance) is permissible both before and after the salam (final salutation of the prayer). The more preferable view, according to the majority of scholars, is that it should be after the salam. If the worshipper offers it before the salam, it should be after the Tashahhud (testification of faith) and the Salawat al-Ibrahimiyyah (blessings upon Prophet Ibrahim), as the reported supplication for Istikhara was mentioned to be recited after the Tashahhud. However, if the supplication is made after the salam, there is no evidence indicating the necessity of beginning with praise (thana') and blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him). Indeed, the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to teach his companions the Istikhara supplication directly after two rak'ahs of non-obligatory prayer, without any preceding praise or blessings.
