Is it permissible to participate in a free lottery that requires no capital, and in which winnings are derived from money granted by the website?

Lottery is forbidden. If a website gives money to participants to enter a draw, the profit becomes forbidden gambling. However, if the website offers prizes without any financial contribution from the participants, it is not considered gambling. Nevertheless, it remains forbidden if it involves imitation of the people of immorality, as it is mentioned in the Holy Quran that intoxicants and gambling are an abomination of Satan's handiwork. Therefore, it is obligatory to stay away from such websites.
