What is the ruling on imagining lustful matters for an unmarried person, taking into account previous fatwas that state, "There is no objection to a girl imagining that she is being intimate with her husband, though it is better to avoid that," while another fatwa states, "As for imagining these matters while you are awake, that is not permissible, because it may lead to what is forbidden"?

There is no problem or contradiction between the two fatwas. The first is specific to married women, and the second to unmarried women. It is not permissible to deliberately conjure up sexual fantasies and derive pleasure from them between individuals who are not married to each other, whether the fantasy is about a specific person or not. However, if these fantasies overcome a person without being deliberately sought, then there is no blame.
