The wife has the right to an independent dwelling, and she is not obligated to live with the husband's parents. If the husband withholds a right from his wife, she is not permitted to withhold his right from him. Rather, she is required to obey him in what is good and reasonable, and she may refuse to obey him if he is oppressive towards her. The wife is required to treat her husband kindly, and she is not permitted to speak ill of him or his family, or to reveal his secrets. The wife is not permitted to give the gold her husband gave her to her mother, nor is she permitted to refuse to return home for this reason. If she refuses, she is considered disobedient (nashiz). Her father is not permitted to prevent her from returning home. Reconciliation between the spouses is advised whenever possible.
