How do I deal with my younger brother who doesn't respect me and is unmindful of our parents? Should I treat him in kind, or should I set a limit to his transgressions, especially now that he is twenty-one years old?
Among the most emphasized rights of children upon their parents is their upbringing and nurturing upon Islamic morals. Parents are obligated to do this, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Each of you is a guardian, and each of you is responsible for his subjects," and "There is no servant whom Allah entrusts with a flock, and he dies on the day he dies while being deceitful to his flock, except that Allah forbids Paradise for him."
The way of dealing with the brother must be changed, and an attempt should be made to draw close to him and embrace him, to make him feel loved, and to remind him of sudden death, while benefiting from relevant fatwas. He should also be invited to righteous and pious people so that they can connect with him and involve him in their activities, and one should not despair of supplicating for him. Beneficial Islamic tapes should be provided to awaken faith within him, not violence and abandonment.
